Baron Herzog is generally regarded as one of the better kosher wineries
producing vinifera grapes. If so, and if this sample is typical, that
part of the industry has a ways to go. This 2003 Sauvignon
Blanc is inoffensive, but quite one-dimensional. There is
almost no nose; just a vague suggestion of something white (albeit
clean). On the palate, there is little varietal character or no sense
of terroir. Instead, as with the nose, the impression is a rather
simple generic white wine. There's also a sweetness that suggests they
left some residual sugar in the wine. Grade: C-
