
For a so-called vintage of the century, I expected more from this fourth-growth Rothschild (Lafite branch)-owned Pauillac. Once you get past the hype, however, it was a very pleasant wine to accompany

Mâche Salad with Blood Oranges, Pistachios, and Pomegranate (swapping butter lettuce for the Mâche). Deep ruby (having thrown only a modest amount of sediment). The flavor and bouquet associations included tobacco, leather, cedar, dried red and black fruits, and cassis. As Helen aptly remarked, it smells like an old-time English study. Grade: B+
