Pretty much everyone agreed that this was going to be a make-or-break season for Ryan Mathews. So far, the running back is making the most of his opportunity. In his first two preseason games, Mathews has averaged 5.3 yards per carry. But more importantly, he looks much more confident than in seasons past. From the looks of things, new head coach Mike McCoy is going to give Mathews every chance to be San Diego’s featured back. For our tastes, Mathews’ history of injury and lost fumbles still makes him a risky proposition, but if he can continue to run the way he has in the preseason, he could end up as a late round bargain in plenty of fantasy football leagues.
I drafted Mathews in at least one league each of the last three years and rued it every year. So I just don't care how many of these stories I see, I'm not drafting him this year.
