First Things' web site has just posted the sympos ium from the last issue on the 20th anniversary of Father Richard John Neuhaus' classic work The Naked Public Square: Religion and Democracy in America. Two decades on, it remains the single best work I've ever read on the proper role of religion in public discourse in a liberal democracy. The contributors to the symposium are generally positive in their appraisal, although many offer candid and constructive critiques of at least portions of Neuhaus' argument. Well worth reading.
