The big question after the Supreme Court's decision striking down discriminatory state laws banning direct-to-consumer sales by out-of- state producers was whether the ever-frowing number of local and regional wineries around the country would generate localized political pressure in state legislatures that can off-set the considerable political pull of the wholesalers and retailers who oppose direct-to- consumer sales. Here's one hopeful sign: A Maryland state legislator who represents a district containing two wineries is starting a push to repeal Maryland's ban on direct-to-consumer sales (link).
