There's been a couple of memes in the blogosphere recently that speak to the titular question, which I'll rephrase as:
- Do you blog as a form of scholarship?
- As a scholar, should you emphasize quantity or quality?
I've come to realize that the part of the scholarly endeavor I most enjoy is the writing. Indeed, I think of myself as writer whose chosen field is legal scholarship rather than, say, high fantasy or narrative fiction (both careers I pondered as a youth). It's why I blog. It's why I write books and articles.
In fact, I can't not write. When teaching and administrative chores keep me away from writing for too long (as they have this semester), I get really cranky and antsy. So if I'm too prolific for my own good, so be it. But YMMV.
