I've been reading a lot of Catholic social thought on corporate purpose this summer. The primary documents are pretty good. But the secondary literature-especially by theologians and philosophers--is replete with arguments and analyses that barely rise above ipse dixit. Case in point:
Why must there be a social understanding? Why must it be informed by truth, justice, and the American way (or whatever)? What does it mean to develop workers?
